Last week brought me back to my childhood Sunday morning, thanks to Steve.
Few days ago was a 25th Blue's Clues anniversary, and Steve, the first 4 seasons host sent a video full on remarks of his sudden leaving and generally asked us, millennials and gen-z, how we're doing. But before diving into that, we'd actually seen him since like few years ago answering some of the rumors surrounding him on his abrupt leaving, which he also explained in his last episode, college. He even made several guest appearances on the current seasons hosted by Josh, the one that my little sister's watching right now. But that's not the whole point.
Steve brought us (or at least me) back to memories where all we cared for was my morning warm milk and couple of donuts with messes sprinkled on top I bought from the vendor in front of my house. He mentioned about Blue's footprints on top of the clues, Mr. Salt, the excitement before reading mails, and god I'll always remember how I thought he's the best painter in the world and singing the theme song that didn't really make sense because it was translated like within the last minute before it aired.
But what's more important is that he also acknowledged that as I, or even all of us, grew older, we also face same challenges and difficulties that come with it. Being an adult, having families, jobs, or even not being in the place that we were dreaming of when we were younger. What I even like is he still has that long pause, cause after all he still waits for us to answer his questions every time he asks by somehow breaking the fourth wall, or even little gesture like saying thanks in sign language. And he closed his video with praising us, and reminding us that it might be tough, but for whatever reason we survive, and that's an achievement we tend to overlook.
It's a whole different world now that we're older. Some of us are still trying to figure out what we really want to do, some of us just started a new chapter, some of us are already settled. But going inside a painting, talking to Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, Tickety Tock, Side Table, Slippery Soap and Pail or other characters that I might forget to mention was a part of our life that might be simple, but made our world a lot better back then.
After all, we never forgot our childhood either. Blue and Steve were two of the sweetest part of it.
